Normal routine backups are necessary for users who maintain a high degree of PC usage for a variety of tasks ranging from the simply domestic to significant financial information. It is one thing to have that data stolen, which could not have been easy for the thief/hacker, and another to simply have to scrape it off a fried hard drive.

Computer drives may crash under heavy usage. They may also become unusable over time since and due to the increase number of times that data is written to and wiped from the disk. The result of a crashed drive is basically that it becomes inaccessible and the operating system cannot access the drive when command files are saved. Windows 7 is available with in-built Backup and Restore utility that allows users to easily setup backups using the familiar native interface.

Outlook data can be lost when Outlook download reports a bug and crashes. This is not often the case, yet users still prefer to backup their Outlook mail and schedules so that this information is available even when web mail archives old mails. Email Outlook saves all files sent and received in the .PST extension. You can access these files elsewhere only if you have a Microsoft Exchange server or Windows Live Hotmail account.

Depending on your Internet Service Provider and your Broadband connection, selecting the right router can have an impact on your wireless network environment. Most users would prioritize ease of access when it comes to purchasing a router. Linksys and D-Link are top rated brands that specialize in providing connectivity solutions and hardware. There are many more brands that would offer better features on their products so it becomes significant to ask which the best router is for you? To figure out this, you will need some online research into the product you are about to purchase and what kind of support the vendor offers. Forums and consumer reviews on online shopping sites are a good place to get user information and known issues.

Small office or home office users might require some additional equipment such as an access point router for area coverage and dual bandwidth functionality for load balancing. In this article we will instruct you on how to setup and configure a popular D-Link Router which is also considered the best wireless network router. Remember that the wireless security feature on your router should support WPA2 which is the best network encryption available. Here are the 5 steps that will help you setup a router out of the box.

Step 1: Connect router to modem using patch cable provided and to the computer or laptop separately.

Step 2: Open the browser and go to admin settings using default IP 192.168.0.1

Step3: Access the admin panel using the default user id and password provided in the router package. Change password and network name once logged in.

Step 4: Use the Internet Connection Setup Wizard and set security settings to WPS

Step 5: Setup port forwarding using the advanced options, and change SSID name

Manually setting up a router may require technical assistance from trusted online tech experts. Online technical assistance for router setup and configuration is available and just a phone a call away.

The customer inquiry from Maryland was a case in point to instruct the fresh batch of tech support job trainees how misleading even simple computer issues could be. What appeared at first to be a simple password denied problem in Windows Live Hotmail was turning out to be infinitely more problematic. Windows Live Mail for Hotmail users on Windows is a popular application that lets you access you mail inbox, calendar, and address book, along with Windows Live Messenger. Unfortunately the user had not installed Windows Updates for as long as she could remember, and this obviously required some kind of fix with Microsoft patches.

Hotmail password reset was successfully achieved without either alternate email address or security question, since the user was not available at the time to provide this information. Additionally, the operating system required some heavy repair, including a defragmented disk, startup repair, and driver installation. Working on parallel tasks, the experts were able to install Windows Updates and troubleshoot the Outlook issues as well. The user could then access Hotmail using both Windows Live and MS Outlook. The technician also created a backup of important data on the user’s computer as well as imported all the necessary data into Outlook.

So now the user would get all her notifications as soon as she had switched on her computer. We also reduced the time taken to startup by editing some of the unnecessary programs that launched automatically. The PC tune up support make the computer quite springy with faster access to the hard drive on the older RAM. Scheduling automatic updates meant that the latest patches would be installed without prompting the user, and a few added PC optimization tools were required to make sure that all scans and downloads took place when the computer was not using too much memory.

Remote support enabled the customer from Maryland, one among hundreds of computer issues resolved daily at HCL touch 24 x 7 support, to troubleshoot her Windows mail issues within an impossible time frame. The expertise of certified technicians is one of the reasons that computer users across the world can get immediate support round the clock.

The usual buzz of people attending customer support queries was today interrupted by a hassled sales executive dashing back and forth between his workstation and the manager’s desk. This kind of activity is a distraction to other employees, and he was asked to sit down and explain what his issue at hand was. It’s still a bit early on the East Coast, and this Windows Mail user from Maryland, incidentally on her Windows XP computer, could no longer access either her mail or her outlook account. The client expressed her discomposure at the idea that she would be traveling to Florida later in the day, and her work mail would still be stuck in her computer, and on webmail till she reached.

Now this is what the sales agent, based on his consultation with the technical support team, advised the client. She could either call a technician home, or call Microsoft Support and get the issues resolved. Microsoft does offer tech support for these kinds of issues. All you have to do is email them and your issues are resolved via electronic correspondence. PC repair charges per the hour, but depending on connectivity and support plans, you could be paying $45 to $65 for every hour spent on your machine. Or what she could do was to buy an online support plan which covered any incidence of her email account access point failure for the next one year.

So the sales team offered her a solution. She needed to pack and couldn’t stand around waiting for a technician to fix her mailbox. Forget emailing for support. The best she could do was to pop in every hour or so and type in her requirements with the live chat option. She had her internet connected and pinging data so there would be no need for step-by-step instructions for going online.

She was satisfied with her instructions at this point. It was safe to go on. She was guided to a page in the browser that would enable the virtual technician to access her computer using remote support. The troubleshooting process was started.

Have you ever downloaded a torrent and found it blocked? Audio and video issues are not just your hardware acting up. So if the movie starts without an opening score then it’s not your speakers that you should be throwing out of the window. Instead, try to figure out what the problem is by following a step by step investigation of the issue. This is the approach taken by tech support agents to effectively troubleshoot online and offline computers. Admittedly, guiding a user on the phone may enable the technician to explain himself more easily. If I face a PC issue and try to find a solution online, then I’m going to end up in a mess.

There are a variety of reasons that make it difficult to understand why you are not getting either audio or video on your laptop or PC. The video file could be missing a codec which will result in an error when run file option is used. An incompatible or corrupt driver will also disable the media player from interacting with the script. This causes reduced or no connectivity for the hardware. Usually when you reinstall a certain component in the operating system or format the drives, important files may go missing leading to loss of media in the browser or computer.

All popular browsers such as Chrome, Firefox, Opera, and Internet Explorer use the Flash player to display such content. Not having the latest version of Adobe flash installed will block sites like YouTube, Bing, MetaCafe, and DailyMotion. Getting interactive tools to surf the web is possible only when regular updates are installed. This includes the Service Packs for Windows users. Additionally updating your browser to the latest edition is also necessary for viewing certain content on the internet. Audio and video issues can crop up at any point in your computer related tasks.

Online audio video support specializes in identifying and troubleshooting such problems so that you can enjoy a smooth browsing and multimedia experience. Subscription support provides round the clock support services for PCs and peripherals. Tech support is available on toll free numbers that can be used globally.

Home users face the daunting task of having to troubleshoot printers and routers themselves. Internet knowledge base may help you get detailed instructions on how to reset a router but these online sources cannot help you when you unexpected results or unknown errors. This kind of troubleshooting is the specialty of PC technicians who work over the phone to help you setup your home computer. Computer peripherals come with built in features that allow wireless connectivity and advanced sharing options. Configuring these devices to your PC or laptop may present problems when firmware is not up to date or additional software is missing.

Windows updates need to be installed as and when they are available. More information can be found on the Microsoft support site or by enabling your computer to automatically launch available updates. This ensures that you are never running an outdated system and that all dependent programs are working normally. Regular updates and PC tune up also enable you to get peak performance out of your computer at home. Office computers and networks require a higher degree of technical support that is fine tuned for enterprise solutions. This also includes deployment and maintenance of collaborative technologies like Microsoft Entourage and other email clients and intranets.

Home users can avail online technical support for quick troubleshooting of PC related issues. The service is available via helpline support and online chat, and there is a subscription that includes several add-ons as well. You can find an online service to resolve Windows and Mac issues remotely. This means that a virtual technician will troubleshoot the issues from a remote location by accessing your computer using your internet connection. If your computer cannot connect to the internet, then phone support can help you go online for remote resolution. These include updates, operating system errors, fresh Windows installation, internet and webmail, tune up, and optimization.

Having connectivity issues on your Windows PC? Here is a list of to-dos that you need to follow in order to troubleshoot your internet connection. Depending on whether you are using a wired LAN broadband or Wi-Fi router based internet connection, troubleshooting a network and connections has been made simple with the Windows 7 operating system.

There are a number of reasons why your internet connection has failed to connect. Here is how you will find out whether or not the service is available on your computer. You may need to contact your service provider or an online tech support service depending on the particular issue that you are facing.

Step 1: Ping you IP address to know if there is any response. If the command prompt displays a no go message such as ‘Connection Timed Out’ or any other error, then you need to contact your service provider or tech support to troubleshoot the issue or reconfigure your IP address.

Step 2: Use the Network Connections tools in Windows 7 Taskbar. The Network and Sharing Center will allow you to view all active and configured connections, including shared computers.

Step 3: Configure Internet Options and Windows Firewall. Ask expert support to setup firewall and notifications settings. Change adapter settings to make sure that you are connecting to the right network

Online support can also help you setup a new connection or network, troubleshoot problems and setup sharing on a home network. With internet and email support, you can get help to improve browser speed, clear temporary files, and install security software.

Gone are the days when brainstorming classroom discussions were the only means to imparting quality education. Today, information and communication technology plays a pivotal role in the academic and all round development of any student, more so at the university level. The intricacies of higher education make it mandatory for students to rely on computers, software and the Internet in the quest for excellence.

However, with the development of new technologies, software and applications, it is virtually impossible to keep pace with everything. Here comes the role of technical experts who understand your requirements and provide simple solutions that can change your life for the better.

Why technical support

When you buy a computer, or for that matter any new device, the basic idea is to use it in the best possible manner to further your goals. But most of the time, due to the complicated functions that these devices perform, it becomes difficult to use them without investing time in learning the processes involved. Even a process as simple as installing new software, say an antivirus, can lead to waste of several hours. The reason can be a compatibility issue or simply a malfunction of the hard drive.

You may get stuck with a minor issue resulting in frustrating times. You may end up wasting hours at a stretch and still not find the appropriate solution. The problems can be serious at times which may require technical expertise in dealing with them. Remember, the idea is not to adore the device but put it to maximum use to increase efficiency, save time, and get better results.

HCL Touch provides the best technical support to students and faculties etc. Because we at HCL believe that everyone must benefit from technology that touches lives.

Have you installed an antivirus that does not detect internet threats and spam?

Fake antivirus programs can cause computer damage and lead to data or identity theft if it is not removed. This can happen if you download a free antivirus suite from an unverified site or because you installed other software that might have contained the infection. If this has happened, then the malicious program will have disabled the use of any other antivirus that can be used to remove the malicious files.

There are some recommended ways to find trusted software and purchase any kind of downloads. Online technical support will deliver antivirus and other pc protection and tune up utilities at a reasonable price. You can also get on purchase support for computer cleanup, fresh Windows installation, and configuration help on your networks and hardware. When you first install an antivirus product, you will need the product key which is provided by the online technicians.

Configuring the protection settings and email filters when you first install an antivirus is the key to protecting your data and securing your online accounts. Most running antivirus and anti-spyware utilities such as the Norton or Kaspersky products use advanced virus definitions that are collected from data that users will voluntarily submit to the developers. This allows antivirus makers to keep up to date with any new virus or Trojan that is attacking users. It is for this reason that you need to keep updating your antivirus once it has been installed and to schedule automatic updates for future use.

Online antivirus support has the dual benefit of providing support at a time that you most need it. The added benefit of having a technician install your antivirus is also significant in making sure those behavioral blockers and browser firewalls are active. However if you have purchased an antivirus and it stopped working, then technical support can help you run a fresh installation using Advanced Boot Options in Windows. Other support for optimizing PC performance by editing the start-up options as well as cleaning up the registry is also available with certified assistance.

Antivirus not working can cause problems, including corruption of native drives and crash, and it can stop your normal flow of work by marking mails and applications that are genuine as false positives. One sure way to keep your antivirus working is by installing updates regularly. These contain fixes to known issues in the software as well as better protection against zero-day virus threats.
